Independence Ltd has a long history of providing high quality aids for everyday living.
Our Story
Started in 1985, Independence is still a caring family firm, run by husband and wife, Nick and Judy Holdsworth.
Whilst working in hospitals and in the community, Judy became aware of the many helpful products and gadgets that were simply not widely available.
Starting around the kitchen table and with Nick’s business experience, the idea of a catalogue of helpful living aids was born. Advertisements were placed in the People’s Friend and Yours magazines, and a local printer produced the catalogues.
Over time, the business grew and moved from the family home to new facilities at Lancaster Way (an old World War II runway). This enabled a wider range of products than previously, as well as a much improved level of service.
Now retired as an Occupational Therapist, Judy still makes sure all products are good quality and genuinely useful.

We now stock a huge variety of well-chosen products to bring greater independence and everyday enjoyment to you and your loved ones. Our hosiery line has been carefully sourced and we now offer a wide choice of tights and socks . In addition, we are specialists in incontinence, offering a carefully selected range of incontinence pads and purpose made pants.
Independence is a family business, with a strong ethos of helping our customers ‘live life to the full’. We are always happy to help if you want knowledgeable advice and a friendly ear. Throughout the site there are ‘Judy’s tips’ to help you choose the right product for your needs.
