Value added tax (VAT) Exemption
The prices shown on our website are inclusive of VAT.
Some daily living aids which are designed specifically for the relief of a severe injury or disability may be eligible for VAT relief. The lower prices are shown where applicable underneath the VAT inclusive prices.
You can qualify for the VAT free price if you are disabled and are purchasing the goods for personal and domestic use only. The items must be relevant to the disability (you do NOT have to be registered as disabled).
If in any doubt, we recommend that you contact your local Customs and Excise VAT office.
Who can buy these goods and services without paying VAT?
You'll only be able to buy goods and services without VAT if you are chronically sick or disabled and you are buying them for your own personal or domestic use.
What counts as a long-term illness or disabled?
For VAT purposes, you have a long-term illness or you're disabled if you meet any of the following conditions:
- you have a physical or mental impairment which has a long-term and substantial adverse effect upon your ability to carry out everyday activities
- you have a condition that the medical profession treats as a chronic sickness, such as diabetes
- you are terminally ill
So, you won't qualify if you are elderly but otherwise able-bodied, or if you're only temporarily disabled or incapacitated.
You don't have to physically buy the goods in person. If your parent, guardian or wife or husband buys the goods and services for you, then you won't be charged VAT.
If you are claiming VAT relief under group 14 of schedule 5 of the Value Added Tax Act 1983, it is essential you complete a declaration and submit it to us to accompany each order.
